IN a battle of brains at the Royal British Legion Club in Watchet, 13 teams faced off in a pub quiz to support the West Somerset Brass Band's upcoming French trip.

The Watchet-based band, making its first international venture since the pandemic, has a longstanding connection with Watchet's twin town of St Renan in Brittany.

The quiz, marked by a mix of competitiveness and camaraderie, drew participants from band members, friends and community supporters.

The event, which raised £170, gave a financial boost for the band's August journey.

The Watchet Cruisers team of Kevin Bye, Phil Marshall, Martin Lintern and Paul Meager won, making light work of the questions set by quizmaster Chris Seyforth, vice president of the West Somerset Brass Band.

Niall Watson, the band's musical director, said: "It's good to see the community getting involved in a fun night like this.

"The funds raised will help us make our upcoming trip a reality. Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us."

The West Somerset Brass Band will represent Watchet in St Renan this August, showcasing local musical talent and strengthening cultural ties between the two towns.
