THE shelves in the Taunton branch of Jack Wills look bare as the store will close its doors for good today (Tuesday, January 16) after a two-month closing down sale.

Jack Wills on Fore Street first set up shop in Taunton in 2017, but from November 3, 2023, closing down signs could be seen in the store's windows, with a sale of 20% off all items in effect.

The retailer was bought out of administration for just under £13 million by Frasers Group in August 2022, but 31 branches of the Devon-founded clothing brand have since been closed down.

A spokesperson for Frasers Group previously said: “The group has been working closely with landlords since acquiring Jack Wills to save as many stores and livelihoods as possible.

"Now faced by unprecedented uncertainty in the retail environment, these closures are inevitable, unless landlords are willing to come forward quickly and finally have meaningful discussions."

Both Frasers Group and Jack Wills did not respond to the County Gazette's request for a comment regarding the Taunton store's closure.

Staff at the store were unable to comment on the matter.
