A WELL-KNOWN Somerset farmer and former NFU chair has died.
Robin Leaney, who was Somerset Chair of the NFU in 1974, passed away peacefully on December 23 2023.
A service of thanksgiving for his life was held at St Andrew and St Mary Church in Pitminster on Monday, January 8 2024.
Former NFU regional director of the south west, Anthony Gibson, paid tribute to Robin.
“Robin will be remembered for his urbane politeness and unfailing courtesy," he said.
"But beneath the charm, there lay a sharp business brain. He had the reputation of being a top-class farmer, who expected those with whom he did business to reach the same high standards that he set for himself.”
Robin farmed near Taunton, Somerset, for many years and leaves behind his children, Duncan, Bridget and Jennifer.
Donations in Robin's name may be left for the Young Lives vs Cancer charity (previously CLIC Sargent) at E White and Son Funeral Directors in Taunton.
