THE Lidl grocery store located on Roman Road in Taunton will be closed on Monday, January 29 for 'essential works'.

A poster has been put on the shopfront window to notify customers of the closure, but it appears it will have little effect on customers as the store will only be closing two hours earlier than normal.

The store will be closed from 8pm on Monday, January 29 for the essential works and while a reopen date or time isn't specified, it appears it will be overnight works.

The post says: "Due to essential works this story will close at 8pm on Monday, January 29.

"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

Whilst Lidl hasn't confirmed what the essential works are for, locals have speculated on social media.

One said: "For anyone that shops at Lidl Roman road, hopefully this will help clear the horrid sewage smell as you walk in."

And another added: "If that’s what they are closing it for thank god! I drive to the other Lidl just to avoid the smell, it makes me feel sick."

To get your Lidl shopping fix while this store is closed, their other Taunton store on Castle Street will remain open as normal.
