NOW fully established in its new customer-friendly premises at North Petherton, Greenslade Taylor Hunt has got 2024 off to a flying start with an extra sale added to its already busy calendar.

This timed on-line auction was designed to slot in between the firm’s mixed fortnightly sales and its specialist offerings of collectables and antiques.

“Additional sales like these allow us to offer a broader range of options for our clients and ensure that interesting, affordable items have a chance to shine in their own right,” said valuer Peter Rixon.

“Expertise, experience and care are crucial to our success."

Nowhere was this more apparent than in a trio of pocket-sized Palitoy Pippa dolls from the 1970s that were found lurking at the bottom of a box of childhood playthings. Spotted by a specialist valuer and lotted on their own they sold for a hefty £380.

Similarly, an unused Special Air Service beret badge, which had arrived among an assortment of odd cigarette and trade cards, fetched a respectable £65 after it had been catalogued as a separate item.

“Our thorough, considered approach was welcomed by militaria enthusiasts and resulted in a healthy bonus sum for the vendor,” said Mr Rixon.

Other highlights included £230 for a damaged Durofix rubber composition advertising figure; £260 for a Steiff ‘Tige’ soft toy bulldog, rescued from a house clearance consignment; and £420 for a late 18th Century stick barometer.

Entries are currently being accepted for the next specialist collectors sale, on Wednesday, February 28, and the popular monthly sales of jewellery, silver and watches.

Although its saleroom has re-located to Junction 24, Sedgemoor Auction Centre Greenslade Taylor Hunt continues to provide a comprehensive service to buyers and sellers in Taunton, the surrounding area and beyond.
