POLICE have charged two teenagers with "multiple offences" following a foot chase in Taunton town centre.

Officers were called to reports of a commercial burglary in progress in the town on Saturday afternoon (February 3).

A spokesperson for West Somerset and Taunton Neighbourhood Policing said: "Officers deployed to the location whereby utilising the aid of town centre CCTV operators, two individuals were identified.

"Following a good old fashioned foot chase, the two individuals, who are under the age of 16 and from outside of the Taunton area, were arrested.

"Both individuals were then interviewed and were charged with multiple offences and have since been bailed to not leave their home town unless accompanied by an adult.

Among the items seized during the incident was a bicycle.

The owner of the bicycle had:

  • reported to police officially that their bicycle had been stolen;
  • previously had their bike registered using Bike Register;
  • shared that their bicycle had been stolen via Facebook.

The spokesperson added: "And so thankfully this made it really easy to identify who the bicycle belonged to and we pleased to say that we reunited the owner with their bicycle yesterday (Sunday)."
