A SOMERSET pub is one of the cosiest in the whole of the UK, according to recent research based on reviews.

And two more pubs in the county have come out in the top ten regionally.

The South Western Railway listed The Ring O'Bells, in Compton Martin as the third comfiest watering hole nationwide.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "Pubs are one of Britain’s oldest and most popular institutions, with England alone hosting an impressive 39,000 pubs.

"As Brits, we all love to find comfort in a warm English pub during the winter months.

"The research analysed the sentiment of reviews from some of the cosiest establishments in the UK and scored each out of 100.

"The final cosiness score was calculated by analysing and compiling review sentiment across four metrics- atmosphere (ambience rating), busyness (quietness rating), cosiness (comfort rating) and Sunday dinners."

Commenting on The Ring O'Bells attracting a cosiness score of 80, the spokesperson added: "With a comfort rating of 10 per cent, visitors can expect a pleasant and enjoyable experience, accentuated by its large inglenook fireplace.

"Additionally, the Ring O’Bells shares the second position with The Royal Standard in terms of their Sunday dinner reviews, both earning a commendable 13 per cent."

Meanwhile, two Wells pubs have made the top 10 in the cosiest pubs in the South West.

The Fountain Inn was in sixth position, followed closely in seventh by The Sheppey.

The top regional cosy pub was The Swan, in Cheltenham, followed by The Haunch of Venison, Salisbury; The Warren House Inn, Devon; The Compasses Inn, Wiltshire; The Wykenham Arms, Winchiester; The Fountain Inn, Wells; The Sheppey, Wells; The Old Courthouse, Cheltenham; The Beehive, Cheltenham; The King Alfred, Winchester.
