A TAUNTON man has been jailed for possessing a knife in a public place in the town

Dale Joshua Simpson, 29, of Eastbourne Terrace, pleaded guilty at Taunton Magistrates' Court to having a sharp kitchen knife on him "without good reason or lawful authority" in East Reach on January 7.

Simpson was sent to prison for the offence for 18 weeks.

The court heard "no other sentence was appropriate" as he has a list of offences including failing to comply with court rulings, carrying a knife in public and breach of a conditional discharge

Simpson was sentenced to a further six weeks in jail to run concurrently after pleading guilty to failing to surrender to bail on September 8 last year.
