THE Body Shop has collapsed into administration in the UK, in a move that puts more than 2,200 jobs at risk.

The cosmetics brands first high street store hit Brighton in 1976 and the company currently has around 3,000 stores in more than 70 countries.

Following yesterday’s announcement, The Body Shop staff in the Taunton store were shocked by the news.

One worker, who wished not to be named, said: “We don’t even know what’s happening or if any of us will be here in a few months’ time."

Taunton’s high street has already been hit over the last few years losing a several big name brands over recent years.

Customers were sad, but not surprised at the thought of the shop’s high street departure, with not many people in the shop on the day the news came in.

Customer Sally Field lives in Taunton and has shopped at The Body Shop since its arrival in Taunton.

She said: “It’s awful really and you can put the demise of our high street down to Covid, more people need to support businesses to keep them on the high street”.

It is not confirmed whether the cosmetics store’s branch in Taunton will shut as of yet.
