TWO of the emergency closures gates are now shut after the heavy rain that hit Somerset during the weekend.

The gates at Langport Road and Cutts Road are now closed due to flood water, Travel Somerset said.

The council’s traffic authority said they are closely monitoring the situation and are urging drivers not to attempt to drive through flood water.

Their message said: “Following the heavy rain over the weekend, two of the emergency closure gates are now shut due to flood water:

  • Langport Road (Muchelney to Langport)
  • Cutts Road (East Lyng to Athelney)

“The situation is being closely monitored and the road(s) will be reopened as soon as it is safe to do so. Follow Travel Somerset for the latest updates.

“Please drive carefully if you encounter water on the road and do not attempt to drive through flood water.”

A yellow warning for rain issued by the Met Office was in place over the weekend, from 3pm on Saturday, February 17 until 6pm on Sunday, February 18.
