A "vibrant" Glastonbury restaurant has been named one of the UK's best brunch spots according to top chefs.

The Old Tannery was among the 28 names that were put forward by expert chefs in a list curated by The Times.

Discussing the creation of the list the newspaper wrote: "No long and lazy weekend is complete without brunch. Everything about it is laid-back, from the loose timings (anything from early morning to mid-afternoon) to the eclectic menu. Sweet American-style pancakes? Yes please! Classic full English? Why not?! This selection of favourite brunch destinations from some of the UK’s leading chefs includes an Indian-influenced menu in Bath and an Australian-style one in Belfast.

"The settings may vary, from a beachfront café in Margate to a converted shipping container on a Bristol wharf, but what they all have in common is great food, relaxed dining and the perfect space in which to fortify yourself against the week ahead."

The Old Tannery in Glastonbury named one of the UK's best brunch spots

The Old Tannery was recommended on The Times list by Ayesha Kalaji who is the executive chef and owner of Queen of Cups in Glastonbury.

One point of praise she gave the restaurant was how they sourced their produce from "local, sustainable suppliers".

They added: “It’s always delicious; think thick-cut bacon, perfectly cooked eggs, and a really lovely selection of wine and local beers on draught.

"In summer their outdoor space is vibrant and colourful and perfect to have a cocktail in the sun.

"A bit further afield is Rye Bakery in Frome (rye-bakery.com). Their coffee is superb and their pastry is worth selling a limb for.

"The cardamom buns dunked into an espresso is genuinely one of life’s greatest pleasures.”

On Tripadvisor The Old Tannery has been well-received by diners, earning a 4.5/5 score from 144 reviews.
