TWO incidents in the space of a week saw cars end up on their roofs outside a Tesco Express near Bridgwater.

On Monday, February 12, at around 4:35pm, a car collided with a parked vehicle on Fore Street near Tesco Express in North Petherton.

The road was closed whilst recovery work was carried out and treated due to spilled oil, before being reopened at about 7:45pm that evening.

Police say the ambulance service was called to check on the driver.

Just six days later, on Sunday, February 18, another car collided with a parked vehicle in the same location and ended up on its roof.

The driver, a 59-year-old man, was hospitalised and charged with driving a motor vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said:

"Officers were called to Fore Street, in North Petherton, at about 4.20pm on Sunday 18 February following a collision involving a black Mercedes and an unoccupied parked car - the Mercedes ended up on its roof.

"A 59-year-old man was arrested and taken to Musgrove Park Hospital as a precaution to be checked over.

"He was subsequently charged with driving a motor vehicle when above the legal alcohol limit.

"He was bailed to appear at Taunton Magistrates' Court on Thursday, March 7.

“The road was closed while emergency services attended and recovery work carried out, but it was reopened at about 6pm.”
