THE Somerset Conservative Group will soon move away from their Bridgwater office on Northgate, to a new base in Wells.

The news comes after a planning application was submitted to convert the 16 Northgate building into a House of Multiple Occupation (HMO) with eight bedrooms.

Cllr Steven Pugsley, Somerset Councillor and Chairman of the Somerset Conservative Group, confirmed the news, and cited Somerset's new parliamentary constituency boundaries as the reason behind the move.

"The building in Northgate which is occupied by the Somerset Conservative Group is currently owned by the Bridgwater and West Somerset Conservative Association," Cllr Pugsley said.

"Its assets have had to be split on the creation of the new constituencies as a result of parliamentary boundary changes, and its assets dispersed to the new Conservative Associations.

"Consequently the building has had to be sold and the Somerset Conservative Group has had to secure new premises.

"We are expecting that the move will take place in early March."

Wells will become the new base for the county-wide Conservatives, although councillors will continue to serve their respective constituencies in the same fashion as always.
