AROUND 800 tons of sand have been cleared from the Minehead seafront today (Monday, February 26) after the recent spell of heavy rain.
Somerset Council said its team got to work to clear away the sand from the seafront walkaways and pavement.
A spokesperson said: “During the recent spell of stormy weather, Mother Nature dumped approximately 800 tons of sand onto Minehead seafront walkways and pavement.
“Staff from Somerset Council’s Grounds Maintenance teams got to work and cleared away the sand, using machinery and shovels.”
Some roads in Somerset were flooded this morning after Sunday's (February 25) heavy downpour.
This morning (Monday, February 26) Travel Somerset said Lipe Lane/Cheat Road in Ruishton was flooded and the B3188 was closed due to a fallen tree from Elworthy to Rooks Nest.
Yesterday, the Environment Agency said: “The situation is being continually monitored and staff are checking the condition of flood banks, spillways, and weed screens."
