A children's nurse from Yeovil has signed up for this year's London Marathon in support of Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity.
Emma Christie has a unique passion for the charity as she serves as a Roald Dahl Nurse at Yeovil District Hospital, providing care for seriously ill children in the local area.
Juggling her full-time role, she is managing to fit in training for the marathon.
Her dedication and service have not gone unnoticed, touching the lives of children and their families in profound ways.
One such family is Lucy's, whose son Jacob, aged 22 months, suffers from a brain malformation known as Agyria Pachygyria which results in epilepsy and developmental delay.
Lucy said: "If we didn’t have Emma it would be really scary, we’d be lost.
"I dread to think how we’d have felt during admissions without her.
"Emma is marvellous, she goes above and beyond and can’t do enough for anyone.
"Jacob loves her and I feel like she’s part of our family."
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity focuses on funding specialist nurses to care for children facing severe and complex health conditions across the UK.
The dedication of Roald Dahl Nurses contribute to a reduction in A&E visits, hospital admissions and consultant appointments, while offering a lifeline to the family.
Feeling a deep gratitude for the charity's efforts, Ms Christie said: "I wanted to say thank you to the charity for recognising that there was a need for the epilepsy service in our local area.
"Because of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity, many families finally feel supported."
Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity is currently working on establishing eight new nurse roles to support children living with some of the most complex medical conditions in the UK.
