AN ART installation at Vivary Park has been removed after it started to show significant signs of weather damage.

The Phoenix structure at the park’s Sensory Garden was removed to be examined to check its condition.

It was installed in the garden was originally installed in 2019 and its material degraded after less than five years, to the disappointment of all parties involved in its creation, a spokesperson for Somerset Council said.

The spokesperson also said: “The Phoenix structure in Vivary Park was removed a couple of months ago into safe keeping because it had started to show significant signs of weather damage.

“The structure was installed in the Sensory Garden in October 2019 as a joint project, partly funded by the Friends of Six Acres.

“All parties are disappointed that the materials used, for what was intended to be a lasting art installation, have degraded after less than five years.

“The structure is being examined by partners and original funders to ascertain its condition and an informal condition report will be shared with them to consider future options.”
