'SEVERAL hundred people' attended an illegal rave in Somerset on Sunday, March 31.

Hundreds gathered in a field near Watchet during the early hours of the morning, where loud music was played and several cars lined both sides of the B3224.

Temporary stage areas were set up on Exmoor National Park, along with gazebos, and huge speaker set-ups.

An anonymous eye witness told ITV they were concerned for people's safety and that people living in nearby had their homes surrounded by people attending the rave, leaving them 'trapped inside their houses'.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We received a call at around 6am relating to an unlicensed music event in the Luxborough area, near Watchet.

"Officers were on the scene within 15 minutes to find the event already under way with several hundred people in attendance.

"Our officers remain at the site and have been engaging with individuals attending the event.

"They have also been engaging with members of the public and providing community reassurance."
