A SECTION of a high street in Somerset is set to close for almost two weeks to allow for 'gas mains works' to go ahead.
The closure will impact Wells city centre, coming into effect for twelve days, from Monday, April 15, until Friday, April 26.
The 38-metre stretch of tarmac on the High Street will be closed 24 hours per day, from the junction with Priest Row to the junction with Queen Street.
A diversion route has been put in place.
A pedestrian walkway will be implemented to allow for shoppers and walkers to move safely through the area.
Despite the road being closed only for twelve days, the order to enable Wales and West Utilities to carry out gas mains works will remain in force for 18 months after coming into effect on Thursday, April 11.
A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: "We do our utmost to minimise disruption where possible."
