HOLIDAYMAKERS affected by this morning's flooding at a caravan park’s touring field in Minehead “were all successfully moved”.

An “exceptionally high spring tide” caused the touring field at Hoburne Blue Anchor to flood today (Tuesday, April 9).

Those affected were offered the choice of a return visit on a later date or a refund.

A spokesperson for Hoburne Blue Anchor said: “Due to an exceptionally high spring tide, combined with unusually high rainfall, the watercourse running alongside the touring field at Hoburne Blue Anchor flooded early this morning.

“A small number of holidaymakers were affected, they were all successfully moved and have been offered the choice of a return visit on a later date or a refund.

“We expect the water to recede quickly today, once the spring tide falls.”

A flood warning is currently in place in Minehead.

Travel Somerset shared a photograph showing the adverse weather conditions at Blue Anchor.

A message from the Environment Agency said: “Strong winds and spring tides may cause large waves and spray overtopping on the coast.

“Areas most at risk include the coastline between Quay West and The Warren including seafront properties on Culvercliffe Court, Quay West, and Quay Street.

“The detailed tidal information for those who use it is for a peak level at Hinkley Point.

“Our incident response staff are closing floodgates and checking defences.

“We continue to monitor levels closely. Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths, and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”
