A Somerset family donated £2,500 to St Margaret's Hospice in Taunton in memory of their mum.

Barbara Power from Huish Episcopi, Langport, was admitted to the hospice on December 5 for end-of-life care and passed away peacefully on January 5.

Although family members were told she might only have a few days left to live at that time, the 72-year-old spent her final days celebrating Christmas and New Year with her loved ones.

Her husband Tony, to whom she had been married since 1972, and their sons, Lee, 49, and Steven, 46, were by her side until her passing.

Lee said: "We were all very grateful for the outstanding care and support given to mum by all of the staff at St Margaret's, so asked for donations to be made to the hospice instead of flowers for the funeral.

"St Mary's Church in Huish Episopi was full of family, friends and mum's work colleagues from Tesco and a grand total of £2,500 was raised via a Justgiving page in just over a month."

A spokesperson said the hospice does everything it can to care for and support patients facing a life-limiting illness.

They added: "The hospice can only do this with the support of our community and the fundraising efforts of supporters.”
