Written by Phil Hill, former Chief Reporter for the County Gazette.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have sent their best wishes and made such kind comments on hearing of my retirement as chief reporter at the County Gazette.
It truly means a lot to me. It would take a long time to respond to the sheer volume of lovely messages on social media, the County Gazette website, emails, cards, and phone calls.
Please accept this as my thank you.

I would also like to thank everyone who has assisted me in reporting events in the area over the past 35 years - from friends; people I did not previously know - many who have since become friends; press and communications officers; local and national politicians; the emergency services and many more.
I am indebted to the owners of the County Gazette series for giving me the opportunity to work for the company and to my many colleagues over the years in all departments.
It’s been a real team effort and I am confident there will be continued excellent editorial for our readers to enjoy, while the many businesses that put their trust in our advertising team will continue to receive excellent service.
