POLICE officers have been carrying out patrols of Somerton's Etsome Memorial Garden following a "spike" in anti-social behaviour.

Officers from the Somerton & Wincanton Neighbourhood Team have been frequenting the memorial garden, as well as other locations, to identify and prevent anti-social acts.

Avon and Somerset Police describe anti-social behaviour as "behaviours and activities which cause harm or distress to an individual, community or neighbourhood. Neighbourhoods can be an area where you live, work, or visit often."

Residents are encouraged to report such instances to the police.

A South Somerset Neighbourhood Policing spokesperson said: "Over recent weeks officers from the Somerton & Wincanton Neighbourhood Team have been conducting patrols around the Etsome Memorial Garden in Somerton, as well as other locations.

"This is due to a recent spike in Anti-Social Behaviour in that area.

"We encourage members of the public to call us whilst Anti-Social Behaviour incidents are ongoing."
