THE owner of a sustainable living store in Taunton has organised a litter picking bingo for this half term.

Tim Walker, from My Carbon Coach, runs a monthly litter pick called Tidy Up Taunton in an effort to encourage locals to "tidy up their neighbourhoods." This month's event started on May 25 and will finish on June 2.

Speaking about the event on Facebook, Tim said: "Every month I organise a litter pick in our town as Tidy Up Taunton and there's always children who are very eager to get involved and to go litter picking, so let's turn it into a game this half term!

"Screengrab or download the bingo card that's in the comments of the event and get picking. You don't have to do it all in one go, and don't worry if you really can't find one or two of the items...that's actually a good thing!

"Then please share a photo to the Tidy Up Taunton Facebook group of yourself/child with your bag of rubbish (please do blur faces if that's your preference).

"Everyone that does will get 10% off their next shop at My Carbon Coach (on Lower Middle Street) in June!

"You don't need to have a child/be a child to enter, everyone can have a go, and if you need a litter grabber you can borrow them from my shop."

Speaking further about his motivation, Tim added: "I love our town, it's a really beautiful place to live, but unfortunately like most towns across the UK it has a litter problem.

"The town centre is well looked after for the most part, like our lovely parks, but it's the outskirts, the residential streets that need some TLC so I was hoping this might encourage a few people to get out and tidy up their neighbourhoods!

"Way back in January 2020 I was walking to work one day and was appalled by the rubbish down an alley by Morrisons, so I asked my manager at the time if I could actually pop out for a few minutes in work to tidy it up!

"They said yes, and I got the litter picking bug from there, it gives you a real sense of satisfaction and accomplishment!

"As Tidy Up Taunton I run a monthly litter pick in a different part of town each time. It is usually on the morning of the last Sunday of the month and we can get anywhere between 5-20 volunteers out helping.

"Anyone is free to join in, and you can find all details on the Facebook group of the same name."
