Shepton Mallet Prison has announced its first ‘Evening Behind Bars’ event, part of a series that showcases a mixture of prison history, workshops and exhibitions.
The event will take place on Tuesday July 9, from 6pm, and features a workshop from dress designer ‘Tanys Transformations’.
Visitors will witness the transformation of wedding dresses into stunning ballgowns and prom dresses, with the purpose of supporting local charities and community groups across the county of Somerset.
Tickets are £10, with 50% off for annual pass holders. The price includes a hot, cold or alcoholic drink on arrival.
An interactive workshop will allow guests to unleash their creativity, helping to transform a wedding dress to represent 'women behind bars'.
This reimagined dress will be displayed alongside more than 70 other eye-catching dresses as part of the summer exhibition in the prison.
Tanys will answer questions about the creations, how the exhibition was designed, and the history behind the spectacular dresses.
More ‘Evening Behind Bars’ events are planned throughout the year.
Shepton Mallet Prison holds a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award. More information and tickets can be found here.
