A NEW football pitch has been installed in Wellington and is “almost ready” to be used next month.
Premier League clubs were a big reason this £1.1 million planned 3G pitch became a reality and is ready to use from September.
Equipped with floodlights and over two-metre-high fencing, the new facility is the perfect home for Court Fields school students and some grassroots football and rugby teams.
The school had been given a £730,000 grant from investors including The Government’s Football Foundation and the Premier League.
The application says the benefits of 3G pitches include high performance; high quality, enduring appearance; sustainability within the local vernacular; durability and robustness; low maintenance; and energy efficiency and sustainability.
This installation comes after planning permission plans for the new pitch sent in June 2023 were accepted over a year ago.
This new 3G football pitch replaces a grass pitch with Court Fields headteacher, Mrs Polly Matthews, expressing her delight with the change.
Mrs Matthews said: “This will allow us to cater for the physical education needs, sports training and recreation of our students and community all year round.
“Whilst the primary goal of the 3G pitch is to increase grassroots football and rugby, it will allow those of all ages and abilities to enjoy a wide range of participation opportunities.”
