Frome Medical Practice and the council are collaborating to highlight issues with disposable period products.
The initiative entitled 'Plastic Free. Period' is part of the Green & Healthy Frome programme and has two events planned to address health and environmental issues resulting from the use of disposable menstruation products.
Residents are invited to an evening at the Frome Town Hall on Tuesday, September 24, from 6.30-8.30pm to explore modern, plastic-free period and incontinence commodities.
The evening schedule includes speeches, films, and insight into the health and ecological impact of disposable menstruation products.
Cllr Fiona Barrows said: "Plastic-free period products are healthier, cheaper in the long-term, and much better for the planet.
"We want Frome to continue to lead the way when it comes to thinking differently about sustainability – and how we can benefit along with the planet."
The second event will take place on Wednesday, September 25, from 11.30am-4.30pm.
Dr Helen Kingston, senior partner at Frome Medical Practice, said: "Being able to give away free plastic-free period packs for Frome’s young people...is something to shout about.
"We really encourage parents and carers to come along and find out more."
