Exmoor National Park has launched their search for young star story writers.

The Dark Skies Festival competition is inviting children to craft stories inspired by the park's night skies.

It is divided into two age categories: children aged 11 and under can submit stories of up to 500 words, while those aged 12 to 16 can write up to 1,000 words.

Prizes await the top authors in each category.

Julie Colman, rural enterprise co-ordinator for Exmoor National Park Authority, said: "We have some great prizes for our top budding authors.

"‘Celestron’ have kindly donated a Starsense 102AZ telescope for the younger age category and ‘Dryrobe’ are gifting one of their fantastic Dryrobes for the 12 to 16 category.

"The best entry from the 11 and under category, from schools within Devon and Somerset, will also win a free astronomy and space themed workshop for their school.

"We have three acclaimed judges lined up with a wealth of experience, including local authors.

"They will be looking for imagination, good use of language and all things Exmoor!”

The Exmoor Dark Skies Festival runs from Friday, October 18 to Sunday, November 3, with more than 50 events planned throughout the park.
