A POPULAR street in Taunton has closed today as water works are completed in town.
St James Street is a well-known street people take as they shop at places on Bridge Street and North Street in the town's independent quarter.
On a sign, Wessex Water said it is "improving the sewer network" while the street is closed for the day (September 30).
Businesses affected by the closure include Howards Fish and Chip Shop, Hats by Janine and Granny Smiths.
Businesses on the other side of the street like The Wickets sandwich and coffee bar remain open.
One local passerby, who wanted to remain unnamed, wasn't happy as they believed there was no notice which affected their shopping outing today.
The passerby said: "I'm not happy at all, where's the notice?
"Today is one of the few days I am free from work and get to come out and enjoy shopping in Taunton and because this (St James Street) is shut, I have to walk all the way around to get to the shops I need to get to.
"It's just ridiculous."
