A TAUNTON man who drove on the A370 at Weston-super-Mare while using his phone has avoided a ban.
Robert Adrian Cummings, 62, of Bicknoller, Taunton, in December last year, was found driving a Fiat Doblo with a “severely under-inflated tyre” and an expired license.
He was fined £116, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £138, and pay costs of £90 in August.
His driving record was endorsed with six points.
Cummings avoided a driving ban as the court heard: “You live in a caravan which is currently in a location where it needs to be moved as well as your vulnerabilities relating to anxiety.
“You would not be able to carry out your job as a gardener and this would result in you being homeless.”
