A COUNCILLOR said chances of keeping a Taunton town centre car park “are less and less”.
John Hunt, the independent division member for Bishop’s Hull and Taunton West, Somerset Council, said “we don’t seem to be going anywhere in getting a final decision” regarding the future of the High Street car park.
Spoking at a Taunton Town Council (TTC) meeting the councillor said: “The car park should stay for residents and retailers.
"I'm trying very hard to hang on to this car park, but every day that goes by our chances [of keeping the car park] are less and less.
"There doesn't seem to be any interest at all of actually keeping it as a car park."
Somerset Council confirmed they are “still looking at selling this asset”.

Cllr Hunt also said skating is taking place at the car park, and also mentioned anti-social behaviour issues.
The councillor also said police are short on resources and asked the town council if it could assist in tackling the issues around the car park.
“It’s quite hard to deal with. I spoke to the residents and police and there’s no illegality, it’s not on public road,” he said, adding that ‘no skating’ signs will be put up at the site.
Taunton town councillor Tom Deakin said they already contacted Somerset Council regarding the car park.
He also added the town council will write another letter to Somerset Council and also address the anti-social behaviour issues.
A spokesperson for Somerset Council said: “Somerset Council is still looking at selling this asset and is waiting for pre-application advice from planning colleagues to inform us as to what alternative uses may be acceptable on this site.
“Until that advice is received, we cannot make a decision as to whether to market the site or to look at any other options.”
