A Greek restaurant in Wells will close its doors for the final time at the end of this month, after being in the city for more than ten years.

The Greek Taverna, located on Union Street in Wells, is set to serve its final gyros on Monday, March 31 as its closure date was announced via social media.

In the past, the Greek Taverna has held all-you-can-eat Gyros nights at £25 per person, made fresh baklava, and prosecco and painting nights.

Losing the business will surely be a big deal for the people of Wells, as the Greek Taverna was the only Greek restaurant in the area. Following the news that the Greek Taverna is set to close after over 10 years, it has not yet been confirmed if the Greek restaurant will get an immediate replacement.

The current owner, Olga Papa, released an emotional statement online revealing that the business would be set to close at the end of this month after 11.5 'wonderful years'.

Miss Papa said: "After 11.5 wonderful years, we will be saying goodbye to all of our amazing customers on March 31 2025.

"It would be great to see you, cook for you and share memories for the last time during the next couple of weeks.

"Thank you all for your love and support all these years.

"We would rather not say 'goodbye' but 'see you later', we hope to see you all soon".

With an official closing date announced for this month's end, Miss Papa has revealed how the Greek Taverna will operate for its last two weeks.

Miss Papa added: "For the last 2 weeks of March, we will open for Dinner & Take Away: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 5:30pm.

"You will be able to get lunch & Takeaway: Saturdays 11:00am -2:00pm and breakfast: Wednesdays and Fridays 9:30am to 11:30am.

"The Greek Taverna will also be putting on a Mother's Day Lunch on Sunday. March 30, and, for the final time, on Monday, March 31, we will be open from 5:30pm for dinner, take away and a farewell drink."
