A Leonardo employee has completed a year-long fitness challenge TO raise £4,570 for Cancer Research UK.

Chris Tibble, a fitter inspector in the transmissions department for the AW159 helicopter at Leonardo in Yeovil, completed 100 push-ups a day for the past year, totalling 36,500 press-ups.

He achieved this feat despite suffering from the flu and shoulder injuries.

Mr Tibble first approached Cancer Research UK over a year ago, offering to extend his previous 2022 month-long challenge to a year-long one, aiming to raise money for the world's largest independent cancer research organisation.

The Somerton native credits his resilience and persistence throughout the challenge to the support from his colleagues, gym friends, and family.

Mr Tibble said: "From the word go it has been a team effort made by everyone.

"They're not colleagues, they're my best mates."

He insisted on having a witness for each of his daily push-ups.

Mr Tibble explained: "Unless I was doing my push-ups in front of someone it didn’t count.

"The most I have been able to do in one session has been 80, but usually, I’ll split it 50/50 to make it more manageable."

His firm resolve to raise funds for the charity was to raise at least £2,500 to provide bespoke therapy for people coping with melanoma, a goal which he almost doubled.
