FOR Steve and Dominic Cleverdon, the Taunton Flower Show is a family affair and a chance to showcase their business's award-winning florals.

The duo, who run CDS Plants, will be found exhibiting in the Floral Marquee this year, showcasing their various species of British-grown, peat-free orchids, which they exhibit all over the country. Their "outstanding" plants have accrued various ‘best in show’ medals and RHS Golds since they began showing them.

Dominic, 26, said he worked alongside his father Steve, 63, throughout his youth as he ran a "successful Acer nursery", and that starting CDS Plants together was a "natural progression".

Dominic said: "From a young age, I was involved in the day-to-day running of the business, which sparked a lifelong passion for horticulture. Over time, this evolved into a shared interest in orchids, leading us to introduce orchids.

"What began as a small family venture has since developed into CDS Plants — a professional, award-winning nursery specialising in high-quality, peat-free, British-grown orchids. Today, we’re proud to exhibit at leading horticultural events across the UK as a father and son team."

The business is based in Yatton, Somerset, but initially started in Taunton, where both Dominic and Steve grew up.

Dominic said: "Funnily enough, our nursery was based in Taunton when I was a child, and both myself and my father grew up in Taunton. I used to help him on the nursery all summer. My grandad was also part of the show team many years ago. So the show is very close to our hearts from all angles."

Following Taunton Flower Show, CDS Plants will be showing at Southport Flower Show, Dorset County Show, Romsey Show, Malvern Autumn RHS, and Yatton Autumn Show.

He added: "Taunton Flower Show is our favourite show of the year due to our family’s history with the town and the show."

CDS Plant's orchid display is "carefully designed" to faithfully replicate the natural habitats where orchids thrive. This includes wood sourced exclusively from naturally fallen trees and the layering of mosses and textures mimicking forest canopies.
