Catherine Hanley - Nemesis: Medieval England's Greatest Enemy
An acclaimed medieval historian is coming to Taunton.
Catherine Hanley will discuss her book, Nemesis: Medieval England’s Greatest Enemy, at Brendon Books CIC on Friday, October 3.
The book explores the life of Philip Augustus, King of France, and his rivalry with the Plantagenet dynasty.
Ms Hanley, who holds a PhD in Medieval Studies and is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society, is the author of six popular history books.
Her 2019 biography, Matilda: Empress, Queen, Warrior, was named among the best books of the year by the Financial Times and BBC History Magazine.

Knightmare Live
A comedy performance based on a cult TV show is coming to Taunton this weekend.
Knightmare Live, based on the TV show from the 1990s, will be performed at The Brewhouse on Friday, October 3, at 7.30pm.
The show, which is suitable for ages 10 and above, has a runtime of 110 minutes and tickets are priced at £19.
It features Tom Bell from The Mash Report and Paul Flannery from Ghosts of Darkness.
The performance is part of the show's 10th anniversary tour, with tickets available at tauntonbrewhouse.co.uk/events/knightmare-live.
Knightmare Live has received four-star reviews from publications including The Independent, Den of Geek, The Metro, and The Scotsman.
Gordon Hendricks as Elvis
A renowned Elvis Presley tribute act will take to the stage in Taunton.
Gordon Hendricks, who has won multiple awards for his impersonation of Elvis, will bring his The King's Voice tour to the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre on Saturday, October 4, at 7.30pm.
Mr Hendricks, who was crowned 'Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Champion 2017' at Graceland, will take audiences through time from Elvis's 1968 special to the Vegas era.
He began performing in Stoke on Trent and won ITV’s Stars in Their Eyes.
Hendricks has worked with Elvis's legendary musicians and has toured globally.

Europa Baroque Orchestra
A star trumpeter will perform in Taunton towards the end of the weekend.
The Europa Baroque Orchestra, from Cologne, is set to perform at St James's Church, with tickets available at ticketsource.com/whats-on/taunton/st-jamess-church/europa-baroque-orchestra/2025-10-05/15:30/t-ojnrxlp.
The orchestra will be joined on stage by trumpeter Kirill Curasov.
The concert will take place on Sunday, October 5, with doors opening at 2pm.
The two-hour performance will run from 3.30pm to 5.30pm.
