According to the fire service, the fire had started when a fence caught fire, before spreading to a wooden office block and workshop.

Crews from Somerton were joined by crews from the following stations: Street, Yeovil, Castle Cary, Martock, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Wincanton.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Fire control received 999 calls reporting some fences on fire in a commercial yard, near Castle Cary.

“One fire engine was originally sent, however subsequent calls indicated this fire was spreading, so a further fire engine and water bowser was sent to assist."

The fire was eventually extinguished hours later, with crews leaving the scene around 11:45pm.

The fire and rescue spokesperson added: “The building was totally destroyed by the fire and the cause was accidental."
