THE team of a Somerset village pub are "excited" to open up a new bar and beer shop in Taunton town centre.

The Chapel Tap is set to open at 4 Fore Street in Taunton, after permission was granted for a submitted planning application.

Behind the opening of the new bar is the team at the Chapel at Cotford St Luke, who last month were celebrating being awarded the Travellers' Choice Award 2025.

Run by Stephen Elliott and his wife, Tracey, the Chapel at Cotfor St Luke, near Taunton, was converted from a church premises into a pub and restaurant back in 2008.

The couple took over in December 2022, having lived and worked in the village for more than a decade before taking on the business.

A spokesperson from the Chapel said via Facebook: "We’re so excited to share that planning permission has been approved for The Chapel Tap — our brand new bar and beer shop coming soon to the heart of Taunton.

"The Chapel Tap will be a cosy space celebrating great drinks, local community, and good times — and now that permission has been granted, we can start bringing it to life.

"Want to stay up to date with progress, opening details, and sneak peeks? Make sure you like, share, and follow The Chapel Tap’s social media pages — we’ll be posting everything there first.

"A huge thank you to everyone who has supported The Chapel so far — this next step is all about growing our community even more."
