Christian Wolmar is set to visit Taunton this week to discuss his updated book Fire and Steam.
The book explores the impact of the British railway system from the early days of steam to the era of electrification.
It examines the social and economic significance of railways and their contribution to shaping modern Britain.

Gypsy Jazz – Gina Griffin Quartet
A quartet is set to bring the sounds of 1930s Paris to Taunton this weekend.
The Gina Griffin Quartet will perform at the Creative Innovation Centre on Friday, November 7.
The group will deliver a nostalgic blend of gypsy jazz with Eastern European influences, drawing inspiration from legendary musicians Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.
Known for her improvisational style, violinist Gina Griffin will be joined by guitarist Dave Lunniss, double bassist Ron Phelan, and special guest David Jones.
The performance begins at 8.15pm, with doors opening at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £15 in advance, with a 60p transaction fee, and £19 on the day.

Matt Chorley
Radio star Matt Chorley is set to bring his political comedy show to Taunton.
Star of BBC Radio 5 Live, he will perform at The Brewhouse on Saturday, November 8.
His show, noted for its sharp wit and keen political observations, targets figures from across the political spectrum.
The performance is open to those aged 14 and over, with tickets costing £30.50.

Comedian Matt Green is set to perform in Taunton this week.
The comic will bring his show, Legitimate Concerns, to the Tacchi-Morris Arts Centre on Saturday, November 8, at 8pm.
