TAUNTON Town Council is seeking feedback on its Christmas events - which included a light display that cost them nearly £45,000.
This year, the council upped their efforts in the hope of bringing Christmas to Taunton following the cancellation of WinterFest in 2024 amid the Storm Bert weather warning.
This included two large yellow reindeer, with starry lights and snowflakes dotted around the town centre.

WinterFest 2025 was seemingly a big success in the town, with thousands of people turning up to the event on November 23 to enjoy rides, festive food, and a Christmas lights switch-on from Taunton mayor, Cllr Martin Strauss, and Somerset cricket hero and captain of the team, Lewis Gregory.
Thrillseekers took to the biggest ride at the event called 'Over The Falls'. This ride, which spun riders around whilst they shot up way past Fatface in Taunton, could be seen from the other side of town with its bright lights.
Organised by Ben De-Vey’s Family Fun Fair, Taunton Town Council contributed £7,000 to help with the running costs of WinterFest 2025.
This information, which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Request (FOI) by the Somerset County Gazette, revealed the council had spent a total of £44,750.23 on the Christmas lights in Taunton, including the lights on the tree.
This was up from £40,540.46 in 2024 and £30,403.21 spent in 2023.
Initial plans have already been conjured up with the idea of making Christmas 2026 a special event. Taunton Town Council has launched a public feedback form in the hope of identifying any areas for improvement.
This includes questions like whether there should be more community-led events, such as local choirs, brass bands, or school groups performing, whether there are any other ways Taunton Town Council can support Christmas in Taunton for 2026, and what you enjoy most about Christmas activities in Taunton.
