A comedy showdown is returning to Somerset for another year of laughter and fresh talent.
The Stand Up For Cider comedy competition will kick off its 2026 season on Friday, February 27 at the Creative Innovation Centre (CICCIC) on Paul Street in Taunton.
Now in its 13th year, the competition gives amateur and semi-professional comedians the chance to perform in front of live audiences and make their mark on the west country comedy scene.
Trish Caller of Genius PR and Events, which runs the competition, said: "I am super excited about Stand Up For Cider this year.
"We have the best acts and audiences at every show.
"Audience members are given scoring sheets on arrival so they can vote for their favourite amateur comedian on the night.
"The top two or three from each round will then go through to the grand final."
Last year's winner, Matt Hobs, performed alongside TV comedian Harriet Dyer just weeks after his victory.
He said: “I’m so chuffed and proud to win Stand-Up for Cider.
"A show that brings together two of my loves: stand up and cider.
"As I’m working on my comedy career, winning this really makes a difference.
"I love being part of the vibrant comedy scene in the West Country and this helps put me on that map.”
Each show will be hosted by resident MC Suzy Bennett and will feature comedians who are not yet full-time professionals but are making a name for themselves in the comedy circuit.
The opening night will be headlined by Canadian comic David Tsonos.

Cider from Sheppy’s will be available at the bar.
Doors open at 7pm and the show begins at 8pm.
Comedy fans are encouraged to book early, as shows have a history of selling out.
