MULTIPLE roads remain closed following flooding brought on by Storm Chandra, with the possibility of further disruption as a new yellow rain warning comes into effect.
Somerset Council has released an updated list of the roads that remain closed due to remaining flooding after Storm Chadra wreaked havoc across Somerset earlier this week.
A major incident was declared by the council as a result, with 30 schools closed, over 40 flood warnings in place, and multiple residents evacuated due to severe flooding, particularly in Ilminster, Burrowbridge, and the villages surrounding Taunton.
A spokesperson said that the majority of major roads are open now, but some minor roads remain affected by the flooding.
Further disruption is expected as a new yellow rain warning is in place across Somerset from midday today (January 29) until 11.59pm.

The following roads remain closed:
- Limington Road, Ilchester
- Oake Road, Bradford on Tone
- North Perrott Road, North Perrott, Crewkerne
- Lipe Road, Henlade/Ruishton to Creech St Michael
- A361 closed - (East Lyng to Burrowbridge)
- Cutts Road (East Lyng to Athelney)
- Langport Road (Muchelney to Langport)
- New Road (West Lyng to North Curry)
- Muchelney Road
- Clayhanger Cross, Chard
- Moorland Road, Moorland
Bus services may also still be facing disruption, the council has said, so it is recommended that those taking the bus check with their operator before their trip.
The council is also urging drivers to be cautious and to avoid driving through floodwater and to not try driving past road closures, as roads can have hidden damage from the flooding even if dry.
A spokesperson said: "Please don’t drive through floodwater. It only takes a small depth to stall a car or sweep a vehicle off course, and it’s not worth the risk to you or others.
"We’re also asking drivers not to go past road closures, even if the water looks like it has subsided. Flooded roads can be damaged underneath, and there are several abandoned cars in affected areas, creating hidden hazards."
