Several Taunton students won prestigious awards for projects that helped forge closer links between the classroom and the workplace back in 2005.
They were accompanied by their tutors and business partners as they picked up their prizes from former England rugby skipper Phil de Glanville, head of partnerships for Sport England.
The youngsters received inscribed plaques and certificates at this year’s Somerset LINX Education Business Awards event in the Blackbrook offices of WPA.
Mr de Glanville told the winners: "I know from my time playing sport that people love success, and all of you have achieved tremendous success."
Among the winning team entries were Ladymead Community School, in collaboration with the UK Hydrographic Office and Somerset Motor Sports.com, for a spotlight on industry project; Bishop Fox’s Community School, BSI, Young Enterprise Team programme; Heathfield Community School, the Bulldog Buckle Company, lifelong skills project.
Rebekah Taylor, then aged 16, of The Castle School, scooped a student award in the enterprise/business awareness category, while Ladymead’s Dean Walton, also aged 16 at the time, won a similar award in the raising achievement and aspiration section.
The business award went to Rok, who had offices in Taunton, for their outstanding contribution to the education/business agenda in Somerset.
John Crew, Somerset LINX Network Manager, said at the time: "The awards night was a tremendous way to celebrate outstanding success in our schools throughout the year.
"Over a number of years now, the link between Somerset schools and local employers has grown stronger.
"And these awards recognise those who have played an important part in helping to develop our young people the skills, qualities and attitudes necessary to become the successful employees and employers of the future."
