A NEW pharmacy is set to open in Wellington, making it the third pharmacy in town, which MP Gideon Amos said is ‘great news’.
Allied Pharmacies has announced it is to open next Monday, March 9, in the former Jhoots premises behind the now-closed Luson Surgery in Mantle Street.
Mr. Amos has campaigned for improved pharmacy provision in the town after it was reduced to only two outlets last year.
The facility run by Boots at Wellington Medical Centre in Mantle Street closed more than two years ago, while the Jhoots pharmacy shut last September.
A spokesperson for Allied Pharmacies said: “We understand that this closure left a critical gap in local healthcare, and we are proud to confirm that full pharmaceutical services will very soon officially resume.
“Our mission is to provide excellent customer service and clinical expertise to ensure every resident has reliable access to prescriptions, health consultations, and essential medical advice.
“We are committed to being a stable, long-term healthcare partner for the community and warmly encourage all local residents to return and utilise their local pharmacy. We look forward to welcoming you back.”

Mr Amos said: "Wellington has been without adequate pharmacy provision since both Jhoots and Boots at the Medical Centre closed their doors.
“Following those closures, I've challenged assessments suggesting there was no need for more pharmacy provision, have held repeated discussions with NHS Somerset and met with, and written in support of, a range of pharmacy companies to back several potential new providers.
“I'm delighted that work with Allied Pharmacies has now paid off, and it's great news that I will now be able to conduct the opening of this much-needed pharmacy for the town."
