A BBC radio presenter stopped off at a Somerset farm shop as part of a gruelling challenge which he says is his most 'ludicrous' yet.

Greg James, who presents on BBC Radio 1, is currently two days into a challenge he is taking on for Comic Relief - which involves him cycling 1000km from Weymouth to Edinburgh on a tandem (two-seater) bike.

On Friday, March 13, James, 40, set off from Weymouth in the morning and cycled through Dorset and Somerset, reaching Bristol at around 5pm.

He and his filming crew made several stops, including one for food.

James pulled in at Kimbers' Farm Shop near Wincanton and chatted to locals, including a postman.

Simon Burroughes, who is following the challenge, posted Facebook photos of James at the farm shop.

Speaking via social media, Simon said: "Had the pleasure of meeting Greg James from BBC Radio 1 whom had just started his 1000km ride from Weymouth to Edinburgh for Comic Relief next Friday.

"What a lovely chap.

"He spent a few mins chatting with a post man and some of the staff at the shop where they'd stopped for some lunch, and now he's near Shepton Mallet on his way to Bristol for the evening.

"Hope he raises a good few million for Comic Relief, he deserves it for doing the ride on a Tandem of all things."

The breakfast radio presenter will be riding mostly solo during each eight-hour daily leg, but says he will be joined by other Radio 1 presenters and some special guests along the way.

This ride is Greg's third Red Nose Day challenge after completing five triathlons in five days in 2016 before cycling between Scafell Pike, Snowdon, and Ben Nevis - climbing each of them - two years later. He is due to complete his current challenge on Friday, March 20 – Red Nose Day itself.

Speaking ahead of the challenge, Greg James said: "The world feels really overwhelming at the moment. There's a lot of things to worry about and everything is just feeling a lot.

"I'm dedicating this challenge to anyone who feels like they're carrying life's load on their own."

Greg James' cycle ride is being broadcast live across Radio 1, Morning Live, and BBC Sounds during his journey.
