A trainee nurse who had been 'temporarily suspended' from university died in tragic circumstances after suffering with her mental health.

Chloe Amanda Roberts, 21, was found unconscious in a field near her father’s home in Wheddon Cross, Minehead, an inquest in Taunton heard.

Police and paramedics attempted to revive her, but she died the following day, January 22, 2025, in Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

The inquest heard that Chloe, who was generally fit, had been a caring child who was passionate about cheerleading and beauty pageants.

She hoped to become a nurse and had been studying for a degree in nursing at Hull University.

She was temporarily suspended from her course and referred to the Nursing and Midwifery Council in July 2024, which she found "devastating".

It came after she had suddenly blacked out and started having seizures.

Following mental health issues, she was diagnosed as having a borderline personality disorder.

She admitted self-harming and attempting to take her own life on a number of occasions and received psychiatric care in Dunstable, where she lived with her mother, Joanne Gill.

Chloe told psychiatrists her negative thoughts had been triggered by her grandfather’s death and later a relative's "physical health diagnosis".

Despite that, she at times showed "a childlike demeanour" and "joviality" during ongoing treatment.

Chloe, who the inquest heard "loved her family", moved in November 2024 to Wheddon Cross to live with her father, Peter Roberts, who ran a B&B.

While there, she engaged with the Community Mental Health home treatment team, under Simon Dunn.

He told the inquest that Chloe’s mental health "fluctuated" and her suspension from university had "really hit her hard".

But he added: “She was future focused at times.”

Mr Dunn said on one of the many occasions he saw her, Chloe was “bright and chatty and engaged with humour…and was smiley at times”.

On January 21 last year, following her last session with the mental health team, she messaged a friend saying she was going to take her own life.

That afternoon, she was found unresponsive in the field near her father’s home.

Somerset area coroner Vanessa McKinlay said Chloe was rushed to Musgrove Park Hospital, where her condition was "unsurvivable".

Ms McKinlay recorded a conclusion of suicide, stating that Chloe had a complex mental health history.

The County Gazette previously reported how Chloe had been chosen as Miss Royal Somerset 2025.
