Last season, Somerset emerged victorious against Essex when they met in the competition.
An all-round performance by Heather Knight, who took 3-7 with the ball and scored 45 runs, guided Somerset to a comfortable five-wicket win.
Charlie Dean's swift 45 not out further secured victory for Somerset with 14.1 overs in hand, having restricted Essex to a total of 184.
