A PERSON has been hospitalised after a fire involving a toaster spread across a two-storey terraced house in the TA2, Taunton area.
At around 2.40pm today (Friday, April 24), Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a 999-call reporting a fire within a domestic property on Fowler Street.
Two fire engines from Taunton and Wellington were sent to the scene, and, once there, crews confirmed that smoke was issuing from a terraced building.
According to a spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, it was confirmed that one female had been helped from the property by a passerby before fire crews arrived at the scene.
The fire service then assisted this passerby from the property.
Both ‘casualties’ were treated with first aid and oxygen, and an ambulance was requested to attend the scene.
The spokesperson said: "It was confirmed that one female had been assisted from the property by a passerby prior to Fire Service arrival, and the Fire Service then assisted this passerby from the property.
"Both were treated with first aid and oxygen, and an ambulance was requested to attend the scene."
South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust confirmed that one person was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital following the incident by ambulance.
A spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) said: “We were called at 15:08hrs on Friday 24 April to an incident in Taunton.
"We sent a double-crewed land ambulance to the scene and conveyed one patient by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.”

At around 2.48pm, once it was confirmed all the occupants were out of the property, fire crews got to work using two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet, and one thermal imaging camera.
By 2.55pm crews were using a positive-pressure ventilation fan.
By 3.21pm the fire was confirmed to have involved a toaster in the ground-floor kitchen of a two-storey terraced house.
A fire service spokesperson said: “The kitchen sustained significant damage, with the remainder of the property suffering slight smoke logging.
“Both casualties were assessed by paramedics for smoke inhalation.”
