CALLS have been made to install a new crossing at a road in Taunton next to a country park.
A petition has been launched by Conservative Taunton Town councillor, Cllr Giuseppe Fraschini, in a bid to create a new pedestrian crossing outside Maidenbrook Country Park along the A3259.
He has said that more than 250 residents in the surrounding area have signed his petition, citing that, if installed, the crossing would "improve safety" for people who use the route daily and children walking to the nearby Monkton Wood Academy.

He added that there have been several "recorded incidents and near misses" in recent times.

Cllr Fraschini said via his petition: "This new crossing will provide a much safer route to school and access point for the country park.
"In recent years there has been recorded incidents and near misses in this area which needs improvement.
"Included in the scope of the work, there is a proposal to undertake improvements to the entrance of Maidenbrook Lane and road signage."
One such recorded incident saw traffic build up along the A3259 in the late afternoon of Saturday, June 21, where a Renault Clio and Nissan Juke were both left damaged after a collision.
At least three police officers attended this incident, which was cleared later in the evening.
