A pilot from near Wellington had a lucky escape after a vintage biplane flipped upside down following an experience flight.
The bright yellow De Havilland DH82C Tiger Moth crashed on landing at Dunkeswell Airfield, on the Blackdown Hills, on Thursday, May 28.
The aircraft, operated by RD Tiger Moths, is thought to have been caught by a crosswind before flipping over and coming to rest upside down.
The pilot, believed to be 73-year-old Robert Doughton, and his passenger, escaped serious injury.
Two Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews were sent to the scene shortly before 8pm to assist the airfield’s own emergency responders.
The aircraft wears Royal Canadian Air Force display markings and is said to be the only Canadian-built Tiger Moth in Europe.
Only about 40 of the aircraft are still flying in Canada.
