Somerset Armed Forces Day returns to Vivary Park, Taunton

Somerset Armed Forces Day will take place on Saturday, July 4, at Vivary Park and Wilton Lands in Taunton, featuring displays, live performances, and family-friendly activities to honour military personnel past and present.

A spokesperson for Somerset Armed Forces Day said: "Somerset Armed Forces Day is a chance to show your support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community.

"This year, we will join people across Somerset to say 'thank you' to members of the Armed Forces community – including current personnel, reserves, veterans, cadets and families – for their contribution to the nation."

Somerset Armed Forces Day began in 2019 after veterans from the Veterans Breakfast Club suggested hosting an event in Taunton.

With a little under three months of planning, the inaugural event saw more than 3,000 visitors.

Following its success, the organisers secured permission to hold Somerset Armed Forces Day at Vivary Park and Wilton Lands.

Although the event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it returned in 2022 and has been a massive success each year since.

This year’s event will include performances from The Soldiers of Swing, who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, as well as entertainers Chrystal Bliss, Blitz Time Sally, and Chloe Marie Aston.

The organisers expressed gratitude for the support that makes the day possible.

The spokesperson said: "Showing support for the Armed Forces provides a much valued morale boost for the troops and their families.

"We gratefully acknowledge the support of Somerset Council and Taunton Town Council, as well as local companies and organisations."
