The moment flash-flooding swept Glastonbury high street

The sudden downpour in the afternoon of Monday, June 22, wreaked havoc across the Somerset town, with several shops closing and dramatic footage shared on social media.

Glastonbury photographer Michelle Cowbourne, who owns Visions of Somerset shop on Market Place, said several businesses on the street have been "badly affected".

Glastonbury Tesco superstore was briefly evacuated and shut due to the extreme weather, but has since reopened.

Michelle shared CCTV footage taken from her shop on Market Place, showing the rainfall quickly escalating from a light drizzle to torrential downpour, carrying debris including chairs and street signage down the road.

Michelle told the Somerset County Gazette: "The flooding was very sudden and the water ran like a river down the High Street. Our back room was affected and the carpet got wet along with some canvases and prints being damaged.

"After we cleaned up we helped with other businesses that were flooded. Everyone really rallied around to help each other last night and again today. [There was] fabulous community spirit."
